Akila Glasses Try On in Silver Lake

A glasses try on at the gorgeous Akila store in Silver Lake, from earlier this year. I’ve been a long-time fan of the brand, and John and I own several pairs of sunglasses between the two of us — some of my favorites (sadly discontinued) can be spotted hanging on my sweatshirt in all of the photos below.

I’ve been exclusively wearing contacts for years now, but I’m finally on the hunt for some fun frames to replace my old glasses from a decade ago with a prescription that is sorely outdated.

I gravitated heavily toward the Alien frames, available as both glasses and sunglasses. The sculptural oval design and proportion are so flattering and perfect, I truly have no notes. They have a narrow fit, and the standard frames are available in multiple colorways: black, tortoise, clear butter yellow, and dark red. While the sunnies aren’t available in butter yellow, they do come in a pine/espresso colorway that’s a softer alternative to the all black.

The list of other styles that caught our eyes:

  1. Alien Glasses, Tortoise — I’m normally not one to prefer tortoise over black, but I did really like the way these looked on

  2. Ceres Glasses, Black with Light Green Lenses — as seen on John below! The light green lenses are subtle and so good.

  3. Alien Sunglasses, Black — Don’t say I didn’t warn you that I really gravitated to this silhouette!

  4. Alien Glasses, Butter Yellow — I liked that these were less pigmented in person than what they appear on the webiste

  5. Grace Sunglasses, Silver with Light Blue Lenses — These remind me of some sunnies I had as a kid, and I’m a sucker for anything that feels nostalgic.

Which ones would you choose?

xx, Annalise
